Guy Scheels is the hero of the book The Choices of Men: A Novel of Male Power and Sexuality in a Feminist Age. He has left behind the chaos and independence of the free-love '70s for a wife, career and home. Now he finds he has relinquished too much power over his choice of lifestyle, career, and the custody of his child by a former marriage. Worse, he has relinquished his sexual power. He is maddeningly frustrated and stymied by his wife's sexual disinterest and the culture's disapproval of extra-marital sex in any form - in fact, its virtual war on male sexuality.

Guy has choices to make. Men will watch Guy discover and defend these choices in ways that provoke thinking about their own choices. Women will be drawn into the plot out of curiosity: What is it really like for the men in their lives, and what choices might they be preparing to make?

The book is written for men stifled by or struggling with the rules of acceptable behavior in their own lives. Who is setting the rules and who is agreeing to them? Far from being a misogynist tale, the story demands that the protagonist cease blaming women for his plight and accept responsibility for his own choices, actions, and inactions.

In the end, the book displays affection for the institution of marriage. But this is not your father's marriage. The Choices of Men intends to provoke a gender dialogue. It has been a monologue for too long. This website is designed to give men a voice in this discussion.

Are you an individual who can face up to a bracing array of tough choices? Join our forum and do your part to better understand Guy's world -- and your own.
