Though breaking new ground in both message and format, The Choices of Men is proud to be allied in spirit with other authors, activists and analysts, starting with these five:

(1) WARREN FARRELL -- http://www.warrenfarrell.com

Dr. Farrell is the only man in the U.S. to be elected three times to the NOW board of directors; later The Chicago Tribune was able to describe him as "the Gloria Steinem of Men's Liberation." An educator by training, he has taught in political science, psychology, sociology, sexual politics, and public administration. His 1994 book, The Myth of Male Power, is basic to any understanding of how we got here, as well as to how much damage remains to be undone.

(2) VERA FALLON -- http://www.gendercenter.org

Site of the Gender Issues Research Center, started in 1999 by journalist Vera Fallon. Here you'll find the most marvelous compendium of books on men's issues around (no bookstore does this, and few book lists do). Sections: Book Reviews, Legislation, Library, Media, Public Opinion, Polls and Statistics. Overall, a website of both focus and inclusion, with splendid editing throughout.

(3) ROD VAN MECHELEN -- http://www.backlash.com

Visitors will find a vast panoply here at "the flagship forum of the Equalitarian movement." Rod provides links to an array of sites that explore the economic and social issues contributing to the upending of traditional male roles. "We are the radical in the middle of the road striving to define the reasonable in an unreasonable world."

(4) ROBERT BLY -- http://www.robertbly.com

Robert Bly, internationally known poet and story-teller, began focusing on the nature and development of men 10 years ago. He authored Iron John: A Book About Men, the seminal work on male initiation that draws on ancient myths to explore the passage from boyhood to manhood. Bly observes that, during the 1970s, men "learned to be receptive, but receptivity wasn't enough to carry their marriages through troubled times. In every relationship something fierce is needed once in awhile: both the man and the woman need to have it." Recommended for exploring the deeper levels of manhood that are not sufficiently honored in contemporary culture.

(5) And finally, from Australia, MANHOOD ONLINE -- http://talk.gelworks.com.au/manhood.nsf/home!OpenPage

"A more exuberant and loving kind of man is emerging from old, uptight and distant models of the past. This Manhood lies in all men. And Manhood Online is dedicated to giving it a voice [using] five general themes: Work and Education; Relationships; Fatherhood and Parenting; Health and Sexuality; and Spirituality... We will provide practical and helpful information on men's services and support their development. We will encourage and facilitate the growth of men's groups... We will celebrate good, healthy men..." As Choices character Jackson might say, having come of age in Australia, "We blokes damn well better take care of each other. Who else is going to do it?"
